Tuskan, is a South-West UK based Producer and DJ, making and playing Jungle Drum & Bass.
Inspired by the recordings he made from One in Jungle on Radio One in the early Nineties, he is a first generation junglist, taking in the whole spectrum and history of the genre, with all it’s influences, whilst remaining upfront as the genre expands and evolves.
Tuskan has been stepping things up in 2019, building a studio, and crafting his own sound, bringing the best of analogue hardware and digital together. Recent tuition from Goldie’s long time engineer and collaborator, Heist, has helped bring his sound from a self taught bedroom producer into the realms where he has seen releases on some of the scenes die hard labels like Ray Keith’s Dread Recordings and support from the likes of Bladerunner, Serial Killaz and Rebel Mc AKA Congo Natty.
Recent signings to Bristol based AFT Records, co-owned by one of the scenes top MCs, Carasel, has seen Tuskan’s first Solo EP ‘the Bricks’ released in October this year. With the EP being played on the BBC and gaining respect from legends like Nicky Blackmarket and Ed Solo, has set the pace for a slew of forthcoming releases on the AFT Label in 2020. All this, plus a long time coming collaboration with the vocalist J-Man, taking a huge influence from dancehall, which has be picked up by Heist for his Co-Lab imprint, along side a remix from the label boss himself!
As a Dj, Tuskan has been very active in the SW and festival scene as well as seeing his first international bookings this year, with performances at the world renowned Melkweg club in Amsterdam, for Cheeky Monday’s, and the esteemed Outlook Festival in Croatia!
As for UK events and festivals, Tuskan has been seen dropping sets at Nass (Warehouse, Hangar and Renegade Stages), the Glade, the Masked Ball’s infamous Laser Shack, Chill at the Mill, Playaz, Frendzy, Rock Oyster. Holding long term club residencies for now legendary SW brands like Bassfunk, Unleashed, First Bass and VRS along with guest sets for the likes of AFT, Rinse Out, Little South, One Love, Legends of the Dark Black, Dubphonics, Long Dark Tunnel, Lizard Warehouse Rave, Hot Cakes, Southwest Drum & Bass Awards, Fire Club in London, FireYeahYou?, BBC introducing and Code Red. This is all on top of running his own events under the Riddim Up brand, which indulges in soundsystem culture, tying in with his own Tuskan Hi:Fi soundsystem.
Tuskan’s live performances draw influences from all corners of the Jungle Drum & Bass spectrum, from golden era jungle, liquid funk, through to weighty jump up and ’98 flavoured neurofunk, combining classics and rarities drawn from his vast record collection, fresh dubs and loads of his own material. His mixing style is as varied as the records he draws for, from fast paced technical sections, through to longer drawn out blends, often utilising three decks to build the energy and keep the dance moving.
